Bali is beautiful all year, but the island has two very different personalities. Choosing the right month shapes whether your holiday is filled with beach days and sunsets or afternoon downpours and quiet roads.
The best time to visit Bali is during the dry season, which runs roughly from April to October, with the driest and busiest months in the middle of that window. The wet season brings heavier afternoon showers and lower prices. If you want quiet beaches and good rates, travel at the edges of the dry season rather than in the July and August peak.
What's inside this guide
The short answer
For most Pakistani travellers, May, June and September are the sweet spot: dry, bright days, manageable crowds and noticeably better hotel value. July, August and late December are the busiest and most expensive.
Month by month at a glance
- January – February: wettest stretch; lush green scenery, low prices, occasional heavy evening showers.
- March: transition month; humidity high but rain easing, good value.
- April – May: settled weather and reasonable rates — an excellent compromise.
- June – August: peak dry season worldwide; ideal weather, busiest beaches, highest rates.
- September: still dry with fewer crowds — our team's favourite month.
- October: warm with occasional showers returning; great sunsets.
- November – December: short storms possible, then the festive peak from mid-December.
Dry season: April to October
This is when Bali delivers the postcard version of itself — clear water at Nusa Penida, calm mornings for rice terrace walks in Ubud and dry roads for the drive up to Kintamani. Expect busier beach clubs and higher room rates in July and August, so book villas two to three months ahead in those weeks.
Rainy season: November to March
Do not write off the rainy season. Rain usually arrives in intense bursts rather than all-day drizzle, and the island is greener, cheaper and far quieter. For travellers on a budget or honeymooners who prefer privacy over crowds, December and February can be excellent — provided you plan indoor-friendly activities like spa days, cooking classes and temple visits.
If you are travelling specifically for beach days and island hopping, avoid January. If you want tranquillity and value, it can be the best month of the year.
Best months for honeymoons
For honeymooners we usually recommend May, June or September: dry evenings for Uluwatu sunset dinners, beach-club weather in Seminyak, and enough calm sea for a Nusa Penida day trip. Book a private villa with a plunge pool if privacy is a priority — the difference in cost from a standard resort room is smaller than most couples expect.
What to pack regardless of month
- Light cotton clothing, with one smart outfit for fine dining.
- A sarong and covered shoulders for temple visits.
- Reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent and a compact umbrella.
- Comfortable sandals plus shoes with grip for waterfall trails.
- A universal adapter and a power bank for long excursion days.
